Do you need a leader for your Cub Scout Pack? Well you're in luck...There's a Matt for that.
That's correct, I am now officially the only Cubmaster for Pack 176 in Hutto, Texas (as scary as that is). I was put up for the job by a body of my peers (people whom I had just met) and voted into office (nobody else wanted the job) by majority vote (4 against my 1). Congratulations to me.
Haha, in all fairness I have to say that I am very excited to finally give something back to Scouting. Scouting, an institution that has given me, and so many other boys, the chance to be great has always been in the back of my mind as I have become an adult. It is something that I would want to do with my son, should I ever have one. I've even dreamt about it.
This Monday will be the first time I put on my uniform as Cubmaster - new patches were sown on by my wonderful grandmother (thank you Granny!) this weekend. I have to say it is strange being on the other side and thinking back on memories from when I was a boy.
I remember my mother as the Cubmaster of Pack 139 in Kerrville. We met at Tom Daniels Elementary School, in the Cafeteria. The Mustangs. That seems so long ago now, but I remember living in the apartments just across the street from Tom Daniels and walking to school every day.
I remember camping with my Dad and Pinewood Derby and Rain Gutter Regatta and Popcorn. Good memories....
I hope some day that the kids now in my charge will remember their time in the Scouts as fondly as I remember mine.
YIS (Yours in Scouting)................MattA.
